URGENT – 5 days left to comment on the Archway Campus Tower
The Mayor of London has called in the Archway Campus planning application (ref P2024/2598/FUL), which Islington Council refused on 14 grounds. The revised scheme still includes the 27-storey, 82-metre student tower at the foot of Highgate Hill. A GLA consultation is still accepting comments until 5 October. The scheme will damage views from Waterlow Park, but the developers are misrepresenting its impact in their latest submissions by hiding the development behind trees. This has encouraged Heritage England to suggest that the impact to the Park would only be ‘minimal’ and ‘unlikely to have any discernible impact on the significance of the park’! Even if you have written in the past, the Waterlow Park Trust Advisory Group is asking people to please consider objecting to the GLA now.
Why it matters:
– Waterlow Park is a Grade II* registered landscape. Its long views over London and current sense of elevation in regards to the city are threatened by the development. – The tower would rise above the height of Highgate Hill itself and break that view, bringing a dominant urban mass right into the park’s setting. – The developer’s heritage assessment describes the park as “enclosed” with limited views out. Anyone who visits the park, especially in winter, knows this is wrong. – Their latest photos (views 40 and 41 in the new Heritage Statement Addendum) are taken from spots where trees hide the tower. A few steps away it is in full view, as montages in this album show: highgatesociety.com/archwaytower

A short objection in your own words is most effective.
